Overview
Now you can send Instabot conversational information and conversion data straight to your Google Analytics dashboard by connecting Instabot to Google Analytics in minutes. This can improve your marketing metrics and benchmarking, providing true insight that improves your marketing ROI.
Why use Instabot’s Google Analytics plug-in?
On its own, Google Analytics may give you information on website visitors, time spent, etc. However, Instabot allows you to send information such as email capture, demo sign-ups, etc. directly into your Google Analytics dashboard.
For example, Instabot can ask qualification questions so you can integrate data like qualified leads or email capture by role, etc. This nuance and detailed data can give you better insight as to which marketing strategies are most beneficial and provide the best ROI.
Steps to using it: (This should take approximately 10 minutes)
1. Add a Google Analytics Bot Node
2. Connect your Google Analytics account to Instabot
(This will create a new Google Analytics Event when the bot is used).
3. Create a Google Analytics Goal
4. Connect Goal to Event
5. Gain valuable insight!
How do I use it?
It’s now available by adding a plug-in at the bod node level. Let me break it down with a simple example. For example, let’s say you want to know how many people provided their email address to the bot after they went to your website
First, you would simply add the email address node.
Adding the Google Analytics bot node
Next, we’ll add a Google Analytics node. This will act as an invisible trigger that will send the event to Google Analytics. To add a Google Analytics Node, click, “+Node” and go to the “Advanced” tab, where you will see the Google Analytics node.
Connect your Google Analytics account
The next thing you’ll do is connect your Google Analytics account to the bot node. When you open up the Google Analytics node, you’ll need to complete the 3 pieces of required data and decide if you want to leverage the 2 optional fields for additional insights.
● 1. Google Analytics ID (required)
o This ID tells us which Google Analytics account we should send events to
● 2. Event Category (required)
o Use something descriptive like "Instabot bot event"
● 3. Event Action (required)
o Use something that describes what happened in the bot - for example: "gave email address" or "become converted customer"
● 4. Event Label (optional)
o Use this to give more detailed information about what happened in the bot - for example - use the name of the bot (eg: "main page automatic launch bot") so you can determine which bot is more effective at achieving the event action
● 5. Event Value (optional)
o Use this to weigh bot events differently according to their business value - eg: "became converted customer" (value = 5) is worth 5x as much as "gave email address" (value = 1)
Confirm data in Google Analytics
Next, save and publish your bot, so we can test it. (Don’t worry! You can always add to it later!)
Go to your published bot and enter your email address (the conversion metric we’ve set up to send to your Google Analytics account).
Open your Google Analytics dashboard into the realtime view, then click "Events" - you should see your email capture bot event appear!
Add events in dashboard
Create a Google goal
Now in your Admin panel (the widget on the bottom left of the page), choose “Goals”.
Next, create a “New Goal”.
Under New Goal, choose “Custom” (or a template from a fitting category).
Name the Goal as you want to understand it in your analytics and then select, “Event” and then continue.
Now, complete the information we used to connect Instabot to Google Analytics: Category, Action, Label, and Value.
Save your progress! Now you can overlay this data on any of your other Google Analytics by using the Google Goal Drop-Down Menu.
